Absolute HCBS strives to be more than just another agency. We are here to support you and your family, regardless of where you are on your journey. We are consistently approached by families who are feeling the need for a provider, but they aren’t sure where to start. We have created a list of the first few steps that we typically recommend as families begin their journey to finding the right provider.
Write down the services needed, and the schedule you are looking for – Having and offering clarity on what you want and when you want it, will help a respite or habilitation agency like Absolute HCBS find the right fit for your family. Also, use this planning time to consider the type of provider you would like in your home. Will they need to transport your loved one? Does your loved one respond better to a particular gender or age range? Create your ideal while being realistic that compromises may be necessary so prioritize and consider what really matters and what would just be nice.
Learn what to expect in the process – Research the process. Each agency differs a bit in their processes. You can learn more about how Absolute works here and use us as a benchmark for comparison regardless of which agency you choose. Our focus is finding the right provider for your home, not just anyone. As we begin to match your family with a provider, we conduct interviews to filter for those most passionate about this field and allow you to meet with potential providers and choose the right fit for your loved one.
Is there someone in your family that is able and willing to become a provider? We love being able to match within families. Many of our families have aunts, cousins, or even siblings (if they are over 18) who can be trained and hired as a provider for their family member. This is a great opportunity for families to grow together.
Think about questions to ask – Once you have done some research, you will probably still have many questions that are specific to your family and your situation. Think about these questions, and talk about them with your family. Use the planning you did at the beginning to reconnect with your priorities and needs. Take the time to find the right fit for your family.
Start the conversation – Contact one of our Area Managers, or a representative of your chosen agency, to start the conversation, ask your questions, and arrange for the next step.
We know that beginning the search for finding a provider can be an intimidating endeavor, but there are many resources providing support. You are not on this path alone! We know how wonderfully life-changing it can be for you and your child to have the right provider in your home, and we are so passionate about the work we do. Please contact us with any questions.
